JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Safety and Security Coordinator

Salary Schedule: CLSS

Reports To: Executive Director of Safety and Security

Work Schedule: 187 Days/8.0 Hours

Grade/Level:  J-3

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Primary Function: Under direct supervision of the School Safety Officer, works with building level administrators to patrol school buildings, ensuring a safe and secure property wide environment, as well as the personal safety of students, staff, and visitors.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a high school diploma or GED (Secondary education preferred)

Working knowledge of applicable local, State, and Federal laws, guidelines, regulations, etc relating to law enforcement and the K12 landscape

Proven experience in Law Enforcement or related field, preferably in an educational or similar setting

Strong organizational and communication skills to develop and implement risk management programs effectively

POST Certification

Clean criminal record, passing a drug screening test, and applicable pre-employment conditions

 

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:

1.

Develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols and procedures to address potential risks and emergencies.

2.

Coordinate with school administration to conduct safety audits, drills, exercises, and inspections of facilities and grounds.

3.

Collaborate with school administration, security personnel, and public safety agencies to address safety concerns and implement security measures.

4.

Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency responders.

5.

Monitor and update safety and security equipment, such as fire alarms, surveillance cameras, and emergency communication systems, and report any relevant campus issues through the proper channels.

6.

Provide support during school events, drills, investigations, and emergency situations as directed by school authorities.

7.

Stay informed about current trends and best practices in school safety and emergency management.

8.

Enforces Board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.

9.

Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to safety/security in K12 settings.

10.

Work designated extracurricular events to promote enhanced security

11.

Must be able to retain POST certification with the ability to carry a firearm

12.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and external stakeholders.

13.

Serve as the point of contact for safety-related concerns and incidents within the school community.

14.

Sound judgment and decision-making abilities, particularly in high-pressure situations.

15.

Physical fitness and agility to perform duties such as walking, standing, and bending for extended periods.

17.

Provides for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and School District property in accordance with School District policies to provide an educational climate that is conducive to learning.

18.

Ability to patrol the grounds continuously, under limited supervision

19.

Serve as site coordinator for crisis alert system, inventory control, and issuance of applicable materials.

20.

Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
