Job Summary:
The School Clinic Substitute is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the school principal and Nurse Supervisor, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.

 

All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Reports To: Nurse Supervisor

Work Schedule: As needed/8 hours per day

Grade/Level:  NURSE

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Primary Function:   On an as-needed basis in a substitute nurse/clinic assistant role - To strengthen and facilitate the educational process by improving and protecting the health status of children and by identification and assistance in the removal or modification of health-related barriers to learning for individual children.

Constant Interruptions

Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephone.  Seeing to read a variety of materials

Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood, and bodily fluids

Sitting for extended periods of time

 

Bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materials

 

Lifting students and lifting to 40 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling.

 

Ability to assist students in emergency situations requiring a quick pace traversing stairs or hills.                      

 

Qualifications:

Educational Level: Diploma or Associate Degree in Nursing, must hold a valid Georgia LPN or RN License OR Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, or Paramedic certificate required.

Must hold and maintain a valid Georgia LPN or RN License OR certification as CNA, MA, or Paramedic

Must possess and maintain First Aid and CPR Certificate

Previous Pediatric, Community Health, and/or School Health nursing experience preferred

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:

Performs routine clinical services as required, including basic health assessment and first aid, and follows up in a user-friendly clinic environment

Provides emergency crisis nursing care as circumstances require

Some travel is involved, as needed.

Exhibit professionalism in all job-related situations and follow professional ethics in all work-related activities.

Communicates responsibly with all individuals and groups

Adheres to local school procedures and regulations in a supportive manner

Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities

Serves as a resource person to teachers and parents concerning health problems, disease processes, and disabilities as they relate to learning and school

Provides support to school staff regarding care of students with food allergies, emergency medications, and chronic and acute medical issues

Communicates with nursing supervisor, lead nurse, principal, and other staff members regarding school health issues

Demonstrates good organizational and time management skills

Completes assigned paperwork accurately and in a timely manner

Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
