Position Title: Counselor 

Salary Schedule: State Based Plus Local Supplement

Work Schedule: 187 days/8 hr.

Grade/Level:  N/A

FLSA: Exempt

Primary Function: Ability to provide instruction, assessing and encouraging student progress. Ability to manage the learning environment, complying with state and district level regulations and policies.

Qualifications:

A valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in assigned teaching field as required by the Professional Standards Commission

 

*School Counseling (P-12)

Must hold or be eligible for a Master’s degree in School Counseling

The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.

Essential Functions:

 

Implement or assist in implementing a developmental counseling and guidance program considering the school needs

 

Conduct individual counseling in areas of educational and person need as referred by staff, family, or self-referred

 

Conduct group counseling in identified areas

 

Conduct classroom activities to support instruction, educational transition, career awareness and personal development

 

Collaborate with Graduation Coaches, Career Pathways Facilitators, and others as appropriate to successfully implement the Career Pathways initiative

 

Assist with administration of standardized group testing

 

Consult and coordinate with staff, parents, and community resources

 

Assist in implementing crisis management plans

 

Provide information to students and parents on career awareness and life development

 

Possess and maintain valid and appropriate license, certificate and/or credential as may be required for this position

 

Follow work scheduling and attendance requirements in a regular, predictable, and punctual manner

 

Participate in training programs and apply concepts learned in the classroom to increase student learning

 

Participate in the Student Support Team process

 

Review current developments, literature and technical source information related to job responsibilities

 

Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures

 

Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies

 

Perform other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee
